Anyone can be a “work at home mom”, I heard that a million times. How many pairs of eyes have you seen roll whenever you say you’re a WAHM? I can no longer count them with just my ten fingers and toes.
I am sure both of us know that working at home, and finding clients from all corners of the world, is not a thing that “anyone” can do. But like any mom, we should pass this little hurdle of trying to prove our jobs that earns me more than any office and position I’ve held.
Tip #1: Give up trying to explain your work and get on with making money.
When you’re working from home, most of the time – online, it’s easy to come across same moms who are on the same boat. No matter how busy you are, take a breather and pop a message or two. It’s good to have a support system whom you can relate to. You can also exchange notes on how to do more work, review a replicated website software and earn more.
More than dollars, it’s nice to talk about your kids too and other moms talk that both you and your WAHM buddy will find interesting.
Tip #2: Find a WAHM buddy
Though there are some days that we are flooded with work, and there are days when money is as elusive as a blue moon, only take on tasks you can finish. If you have the time, you can find team members online to whom you can delegate tasks to. I recommend getting help from your fellow WAHMs. I sometimes get extra paid tasks from one of my WAHM friends when her hands are full. In turn, I also delegate some tasks to other WAHMs.
If you are just starting though, only bite that you can swallow.
Tip#3: Only Take on Tasks You can Finish, or Delegate Work
There are also softwares/online tools which can help you finish more work. Though very simple, I like using Google Docs because it automatically saves my work and can easily be seen by clients. Some moms use a franchise software that help them provide their clients with localized websites. If you are thinking of getting a website online, check Freshout web development and save yourself time from doing it yourself.
Also close windows that you are not using, even chat softwares like Yahoo! Messenger which can be very intrusive on the desktop. This will allow your computer to even work more efficiently and prevent it from “hanging”.
Tip #4: Use Online Tools and Declutter your Desktop
Today Ashton wouldn’t seem to take his afternoon nap. Not until now as I am hurriedly blogging. I had to stay cool, inject work in between playing and feeding, and remind myself that Ashton is number one on my list. There’s a saying you cannot serve two masters at the same time. So I closed my laptop and watched Nickelodeon all afternoon.
Tip #5: Your Children are Number One
Lastly, we have to remind ourselves of the reasons why we opted to work at home. My number one reason is family and secondly, I want to hold and manage my own time by neck. It’s just easy to fall in to the traps of being a workaholic and drive ourselves like money making machines.
And when there are no opportunities, don’t fret because it simply means you have more time for your “number ones”.
