Malaysian Chef Chan Hong Meng at Hawker Chan Philippines
Hawker Chan is the newest and cheapest Michelin Star restaurant to open in the Philippines. Don’t be left behind by your foodie friends and continue reading this crash course about Hawker Chan! Hawker Chan’s global popularity belies its humble beginnings. The restaurant was founded by Malaysian Chef Chan Hong Meng, the son of a farmer, who flew to Singapore in the 1980s and trained under a Hong Kong chef. It was under his mentor’s guidance that he learned to prepare the now famous Singapore Soya Sauce Chicken and Noodle.

Since receiving his first Michelin Star, his stall in Singapore has been an attraction both for locals and tourists. In fact, if you go there, the waiting time is up to 3 hours if you really want to taste his famous Soya Sauce Chicken. Luckily, Hawker Chan has expanded including in the Philippines!
Here’s a first look at Hawker Chan Philippines in Mall of Asia:
Filipinos can look forward to the same mouthwatering dishes that have captivated people across the region. Thanks to Foodee Global Concepts, the industry maverick that has transformed the Filipino dining scene with groundbreaking offerings such as the Michelin-starred Tim Ho Wan, FOO’D By Davide Oldani, Tsuta Japanese Soba Noodles and Llaollao’s unique Spanish frozen yogurt. Pinoys can look forward to the best tasting dishes. That’s because Foodee Global Concepts recognized Filipinos’ love and curiosity for food, and responded by bringing to the country the offerings of top-rated restaurants that have won the hearts of people around the world.
Among the dishes that diners can look forward to at Hawker Chan Manila are its signature combination platter of char siew, roasted pork, and pork rib, and the whole chicken platter. What makes this even more exciting is that these dishes are priced to be extremely pocket-friendly. On the average, the price range per dish is only PHP 100.00 to 150.00!
Located at the Ground Floor, Entertainment Mall at SM Mall of Asia Complex, the restaurant seats 86 and is perfect for those who want a great, affordably-priced, hearty meal. To add to the excitement, Hawker Chan customers will get a chance to fly to Singapore every time they dine at Hawker Chan Manila from July 26 to August 5, 2018. Two (2) lucky winners will get a chance to Fly to Singapore and enjoy a 3 days 2 nights full board and meal stay, sponsored by FOODEE Global Concepts Inc. and the Singapore Tourism Board.

What to Order on Your First Visit
I recommend trying the combination platter with the Soya Sauce Chicken, Char Siew Pork, and Pork Rib (P270). This is enough for two persons and each of you can order rice (P25) or noodles (P60) to enjoy your roasts with. I recommend trying the roasts with both the rice and the noodles.
Enjoy roasts with Noodles
Or with rice
I know it’s the Soya Sauce Chicken that won the Michelin Star, but the Char Siew Pork won my heart!
If you have extra money and would like an appetizer, I recommend the Thai Style Tofu (P160). It goes very well with the roasts too. 5 slices of tofu can be shared by 2 persons.
Hawker Chan Sauces: How To
Roasts are enjoyable because you get to play with flavors with different sauces. The sauces section of Hawker Chan Philippines is so much fun. There are at least 3 different types of soy sauce and 2 chili sauces. It’s hard to choose from the pickled chili and the orange-colored chili sauce. Just get both, the sauces are all free and unlimited, so let me know which you preferred.
My ultimate sawsawan at Hawker Chan is the light soya sauce with pickled green chilis.
Hawker Chan Whole Soya Sauce Chicken
With Hawker Chan’s affordable price for the Filipino budget, the whole soya sauce chicken is a new takeout option for families. A welcome level-up from the common chicken roasts that are being sold at a similar price.
Don’t forget to take home one when you visit SM Mall of Asia as pasalubong, gift, or just to enjoy a Michelin Star meal right at home with your loved ones.
