I have been reading about good brands of breast pumps in the market, one certified by moms as comfortable and optimal in squeezing more ounces per pump. A breast pump should be ready as soon as a woman gives birth in case the baby cannot be handed to you right away for nursing. Breast milk should be extracted within 30 minutes of delivery to send the right signals to the body that it must produce milk.
Avent Breast Pump has been mentioned so many times in online forums about breastfeeding and this week, I got to see it first hand while window shopping. I was surprised that breast pumps are very expensive! This Avent Manual Breast Pump costs Php 5,000 +. I wanted to get this brand because moms using it are very successfully in getting more milk and in sustaining their milk supply. This could be one of those big ticket expenses that should be prepared for.
Cheaper breast pumps I found include this one from Playtex which is also used by a number of moms yet some have reported it as uncomfortable making them switch to the Avant brand. If I am not mistaken, this costs around Php 4,000 +.
Then there’s Pigeon, the brand we know for baby bottles. I think this is the cheapest one I have found so far but I haven’t read much rave about it yet. They also offer this breast gel which I think should ease and prevent sore nipples.
I also saw the Medela Breast Pump which is priced the same as Avent. Like the latter, many use the Medela as well. So many brands to choose from! I wish we can have a trial period for these breast pumps before purchasing x.x Which do you think is the best?
