Aside from nutrition, it’s essential for our kids to have a balance of everything and that’s true even for us moms too! So here’s my take on what should be AQI with my son Ashton.
Music time with Ashton as the guitarist (and mommy as the drummer?)
I believe my child should have Adequate playtime. According to Whattoexpect.com, as your toddler goes through his busy day zooming around the playground, whipping up a meal in his toy kitchen, or pouring water into a cup while he bathes, he’s solving problems, boosting his language skills, learning about people, discovering scientific and math principles, and sharpening his creativity and imagination. I am surprised everyday how much my son, Ashton learns through playtime. I never seriously taught him about colors, ABCs, and numbers but he already knows all of it – thanks to all the toy cars we play with! You may not notice but when you play, you would encounter colors, counting, and even letters. Depending on the toys you play, your child can learn something new with you everyday.
It’s important that it’s not only your child who spends adequate playtime but also you! I’ve written about quality play time here recently and why it’s important for children to play together with their parents. In a nutshell, it makes them feel recognized, important, and best of all – loved.
Fishing adventure at Gamezoo
Quality time with parents is a must. My mini family and I make sure we go on an adventure at least once a week. By adventure, we don’t mean kayaking or mountain climbing. Anything can be an adventure if you want it to be! We’d go out to ‘explore’ a jungle of new toys in Toy Kingdom or Toys R’ Us, bring our son to new places and parks, or have fun in kid-friendly arcades. It’s amazing how when we spend time with Ashton, we also find that we de-stress at the same time.

Mommylace tip: plan your Quality Time Adventures ahead (even if it’s just two hours before). It’s a good idea to know whether a place is kid friendly. Look out for waiting areas, clean restrooms, child friendly restaurants, and attractions that everyone in the family can enjoy. Don’t forget the budget too!
Finally, it’s Important for my child to have a comfortable home. A place with adequate space to play around (toddlers need to burn all those energy), clean air, relaxing space, and most of all a place that it safe for him to grow up. Living down south has given us this privilege. I want my child to be at home at home – if you know what I mean. A place where he can freely express himself and be the person he wants to be. After all, everything starts from the home.
Mommylace tip: look at your home with a fresh set of eyes. Is it too noisy, are the neighbours too loud that your child can’t sleep, or are there too much distractions that makes your child hyperactive? Make the necessary changes. Some experts believe that children are made and not born. Meaning, the environment plays an important role in determining the type of person they’ll soon become.
