Ashton and I spent some time cleaning the house today. One of the toughest to clean are sliding windows, sliding doors and their tracks.

We have a lot of baking soda in the kitchen and thought I’d do some experiment with my 5 year old. First of all, I’ve seen on YouTube how expert cleaners & mommy bloggers use baking soda to clean. We also learned in school how baking soda bubbles up or forms some kind of foam when sprayed with something. I guessed it was vinegar and it worked!
How To Use Baking Soda to Clean
1. In a small plastic dish, pour enough baking soda for your cleaning purpose
2. Add water in small amounts with the goal of creating a paste – use a plastic spoon to stir and for application later.
3. You can apply the baking soda paste to clean the following surfaces:
– sliding window tracks
– wall stains & grime
– counter tops with tough stains
– window sills and flower boxes with scratches
4. Let the baking soda paste sit for a while on the dirty surface. If you are trying to remove tough stain, you can scrub it away with a paper towel before proceeding to Step 5.
Baking soda foams up, lifts dirt when sprayed with vinegar solution
5. Now, use equal parts of vinegar + water in a spray bottle to spray the baking soda paste. This will create suds, bubbles, or foams that appear to lift off the dirt & grime from the dirty surface.
6. Using a paper towel, scrub off the baking soda and vinegar from the surface. If baking soda is left in the corners, just spray it with the vinegar + water solution to turn it into bubbles and wipe it off right away.
The vinegar + water solution is great to remove water stains from glass tops, windows, and doors. I use it almost everywhere to clean. It disinfects and the baking soda deodorizes.
In the Philippines, you can get baking soda at the grocery or in baking supply stores.
Happy cleaning Mommy!
