Ashton’s First Yoga Class – Kids One Yoga

Focus is a very important skill our children need to learn. Just think about all distractions around. It’s a shame people are developing very short attention spans which can ultimately lead to being an unproductive adult. I don’t want Ashton to be like that.

According to experts, one way to train our minds to focus is via yoga. This is something I’ve practiced since high school but never got the chance to take seriously and regularly. Although – it’s something I run to in times of stress and frustration. It’s amazing how breathing properly can change my mood.

These days, it’s not just us who experience stress. Kids are also stressed! Some of these stresses include school, meeting parent’s expectations, friends, and other things that I am sure many of us can remember from childhood. That said, kids can also benefit from yoga and a lot of parents are enrolling their kids to this activity! I am a late bloomer.

One weekend, we spent an afternoon with teacher Krissy of Kids One Yoga. Look at these adorable kids and I am amazed how they all behaved properly. It must be teacher Krissy’s angelic voice. Even Ashton who is just 3, managed to follow her poses.

The yoga session was especially crafted for kids and is injected with educational fun facts in between. Not to mention, the value of friendship and team work. The kids were very relaxed and even I felt the same. No grand expectations, there was no wrong move – everyone was just welcomed to the “circle”.

Kids One Yoga is rightfully equipped with yoga mats for kids, toys, and a beanie/mask for the children’s eyes to relax with. I wish I could lay down beside Ashton and let my body become fluid and limitless – just like what yoga teacher Alan Finger would say in his DVDs.

When I checked out their website, I was surprised at how affordable this yoga program for kids actually is. 11 sessions is worth Php 3,500 which is inclusive of mat and materials. Other packages are available just check it here: http://www.kidsoneyoga.com/rates.html

My wish is for there to be more yoga teachers like teacher Krissy. In fact, they are sensing this need hence they are having a 4-day intensive Teacher’s Training in partnership with Kidz Yoga Australia. If you want to be a yoga teacher for kids and want to put up your own yoga school, even if you don’t have experience – you are welcome to join. As for me, I will try my best to make time for yoga again. Our experience with Kids One Yoga absolutely reminded me to slow down, breathe, and to be the best model of focus to my son 🙂
