Marriott Cafe re-opens with a limited and special North Asian Showdown, a buffet that features the best of North Asian Fare: Korean, Chinese, and Japanese food. This special month-long feat is only until October 15.
Of all the fares, my husband and I were most excited about the Korean food. We went on the opening night and there was a short program before all the diners were allowed to enjoy the buffet. We learned that Marriott Cafe imported Chef Suh Dong Jin all the way from Korea.
Here are all the authentic Korean dishes featured in Marriott Cafe’s North Asian Showdown buffet:
Bibimbap station – this was our first stop and our hearts leaped when we saw the generous serving of bibimbap sauce (gochujang). The bibimbap was bursting with Korean flavors! I like this dish because it incorporates egg, vegetables, mushroom, and ground meat into the rice which makes it a lot more exciting than the usual.
Korean Hot Pot station– my husband I love Kimchi Jigae so when we saw this Korean Hot Pot station where we can make our own soup and make it as spicy as we want, we felt like we hit the jackpot.
How to make your own Korean Soup: First, choose the soup base. For our own bowl, we chose the spicy soup base – just like how most Koreans want it spicy. Next, choose your add-ons like kimchi, sea food (prawns, shell fish, etc.), and vegetables. Then, wait for your creation to be served to your table.
Best Korean hot & spicy soup I’ve tasted! Congratulations to my husband for choosing the right soup base and add-ons. Panalo 🙂
We enjoyed our Korean dishes just like how we enjoy our meals at home: Bibimbap for the rice eaten with a variety of Korean viands. If you watch Koreanovelas, you’ll see how full the Korean dining table is, side dishes included.
Korean Fried Chicken with Sweet Chili Sauce
Kalbi Jim (Braised Short Rib Stew)
Stir Fried Pork Belly with Chili Paste Sauce
Of the three dishes, I liked the Stir Fried Pork Belly with Chili Paste Sauce best. It was a perfect match for my Bibimbap and both dishes send me to gochujang heaven.
For my side dish, I enjoyed Marriott Cafe’s version of the Korean Japchae. I ended my authentic Korean dining experience with fruits, perfect way to calm & cool the stomach after eating lots of hot spicy but delicious Korean dishes.
Note that the North Asian Showdown not just features Korean food buffet but also Japanese and Chinese stations. The make-your-own Japanese Ramen Station was hard to ignore and so are the Chinese roasts.
If only I have more stomach space then I can complete the flavorful North Asian journey but I’m very satisfied with my Korean food buffet adventure in Marriott Cafe. I hope the Korean station becomes a mainstay and the same goes for their guest Korean chef! We really appreciated the authentic spice, taste, and ingredients.
It was also my first time to try a Korean buffet so all in all, this date was excellent. Highly recommended for friends, families, and couples who want a refreshing buffet experience – especially if you love Korean, Japanese, and Chinese food featuring executive Chinese chef, Chef Law Wing Wui.
