OGTT is Oral Glucose Tolerance Test. I had to get this test done after I took the OGCT (Oral Glucose Challenge Test) and failed. Back story: I was waiting for word whether I failed or passed the test but since I did not receive any SMS or request to visit the clinic, I thought my sugar level was okay.
Then last Saturday, I asked my OB’s reliever to read my results and bam! I failed and was told to get another test called the OGTT or the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test. I had this done yesterday wherein I had to fast for 8 hours but traffic and the additional 3 hour duration of the actual test summed to 14 hours of no food and water.
An OGTT would earn you 4 blood extractions, 2 on each arm so your nerves won’t be too upset
Blood was extracted four times, first before you drink the solution and the next 3 were taken hourly. Honestly I enjoy seeing blood travel from the syringe to the small test tubes. I also like seeing needles inserted because I am a frustrated doctor. It was having no water for many hours that almost drove me crazy but luckily, my husband was with me and distracted. The result is available after 4 hours but again, I just requested for them to be forwarded to the OB whom I shall see tomorrow.
The OGTT at The Medical City costs around Php 1,800. So be sure to bring enough cash when you are about to have this exam.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get a negative result or else it would mean that I have gestational diabetes. Hmm, more on that after I get the answers 🙂 All I can do now is hope and pray (really hard).
