It was just last week that I visited my OB again after around 4 months already. It is easy to miss out on appointments especially when there are days as hard as factoring polynomials. The last time I saw my OB was 2 weeks after I gave birth when she checked if my episiotomy was healing well. She told me to come back again so we can start a contraceptive plan.
4 months after that, I came back to see her and it felt really weird coming to the clinic un-pregnant.
Here is what to expect during your second post-delivery, post-pregnancy check up:
1. Your OB will ask you how have you been after the baby – tell her if you feel any pain, discomfort, etc. Do tell if you have gotten your menstrual period already. You can also tell her if you have resumed intercourse and if you are already using contraceptives.
2. You will have an Internal Exam or IE, the doctor will check if you developed any lumps or abnormalities after delivery.
3. A pap smear will be done to check your reproductive organ’s health. This is important to rule out cervical cancer, etc. If your test shows any condition, then you will be phoned by the doctor.
4. Your OB will recommend the best contraceptive method fit for you but before starting on any prescription like Duphaston to help your system start menstruation (if you haven’t had it), it is important to get a pregnancy test first. I am sure your OB will tell you so.
Most will try to evade this check up like a college algebra class because of time constraints (like I did) but I realized it is important to see your OB regularly, pregnant or not for the sake of your health and your family. I am just reminded of all of these mathematical terms because of the numbers on contraceptive pills’ boxes and my friend talking about a math problem solver 🙂
