Qualify for SSS maternity benefits by making your monthly contributions

Whenever someone gets pregnant, one of the first questions you’ll encounter whether at home or the hospital is if you have an active Social Security System membership. As I was self-employed during my pregnancy, I did not bother to continue my contributions. It was too late for me to re-start it as well in order to qualify for the maternity benefits.

Here is your social security check list to qualify for the maternity benefits:

1.You must be a paying member

2. You must have made at least three monthly contributions to the SSS in the last 12 months before you give birth.

3. File a maternity notification form at least 60 days from the date of conception and before you give birth.

4. You will need proof of pregnancy such as a medical certificate or a photo from the ultrasound

Now for the computation kindly refer to http://sss.gov.ph but to give you a ball park figure, most women I know have received at least P 30,000 worth of social security benefits for normal delivery. This is very helpful for any mother and if you are planning your pregnancy then take time to update your social security membership.
