Your tastebuds are driving you crazy and you can’t sit still until you get the food you want. Sounds familiar? I guess every woman who has been pregnant knows how strong cravings can become when one is expecting. But what if you are craving for something unhealthy like streetfood?
Fish balls, quail eggs (qwek qwek), squid balls, etc. All of these are so yummy but since most of the time they are being sold on the streets, an expecting mom would always think twice before taking the bite. You are faced as to whether the food stall is hygenic, and if the food is free from Hepatitis A or other bacteria that can be harmful to you and your baby.
So why not make the “street food” you crave at home? Sure you can!
Personally, I buy frozen squid balls and fish balls in the grocery. Then I just make the sauce myself. Sometimes, it’s the sauce that we crave and not the balls themselves! Make sure you deep fry the squid or fish balls in hot oil. Do not thaw the balls.
Here is my recipe for fish/squid ball sauce.
Mix together in a saucepan: –
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
1 tablespoon soysauce
1 tablespoon flour
1/4 cup water
Stir them together under low heat until the sugar has melted and the sauce becomes thick. Add salt and pepper to taste 🙂 Voila, now you can eat what you crave without the guilt (or less).
