Just like the weather, my feet have become drier than usual. Aside from dry and cracked heels, my feet are also sun burned. It even has the mark from my slippers:
I have been noticing how dry and dark my feet have become, like it is the oldest looking part of my body.
Today I tried producing a self-made remedy that is cheap and will not entail going outside of your house:
DIY Foot Spa for Dry Cracked Feet
The main cause of dry cracked feet is lack of moisture (and foot care!). It may also be caused by the build up of dead skin cells. Other factors include hot showers, air-conditioned rooms, heat, and pollution that strip skin of its natural hydration and moisture. This can also indicate that you are not drinking enough water.
1. Soak your feet in warm water for 10-15 minutes – fortunately, I found this foot spa machine that belongs to my mom. I dusted it off and luckily it still works. If you don’t have this machine, don’t worry because you can always use a basin filled with warm water.
2. Add moisturizing foam to basin or foot spa machine – you do not have to buy this. You can use liquid hand soap or those little bottles of body wash that you take home from hotels.
3. Exfoliate – after soaking your feet in the basin, dry your feet with towel and replace water in the basin. Soak your feet and wet your legs and apply any form of scrub to remove dead skin cells. I use my existing organic coffee scrub but other items you can use are rock salt (be gentle!), coarse coffee grounds, and if you have, those little bottles of body scrub or bath salts that you also get from staying in hotels. You can gently exfoliate each leg and feet as long as you want. Rinse with water in basin then towel dry.
4. Apply moisturizing lotion – Now your legs and feet are ready to absorb moisture, especially after removing dead skin cells. I use the new yellow Vaseline essential healing lotion with petroleum jelly droplets.
This helps heal dry skin from within the epidermis especially with the micro-droplets of petroleum jelly.
5. At night, apply pure petroleum jelly on your feet and cover with socks – this will moisturize while you sleep as well as heal those cracked skin which may lead to wounds if left untreated. This trick I have been doing since high school but now that I am a mom, I’ve forgotten to do this once in a while. You can do this every night until your heels become soft and smooth again.
I hope you will try these steps to heal your cracked or dry heels, it’s very easy to do at home and will make you feel relaxed without spending too much.
Let me know what you think, Mommy! 🙂
